"Hey, What's Cookin' in the Cultural Kitchen?" is the winning program by Folco. The Cultural Kitchen is an extension of the world language classes at the School of the Arts. Students, grades ninth through 12th, studying Russian, Italian, Mandarin, French or Spanish, will research recipes in their respective language and create meals connected to that specific culture. Meals will be shared with elderly group members of that culture. Folco, an Italian and Spanish teacher, designed the program so that students will be completely immersed in their studied culture to increase fluency of the languages and awareness of cultures. Additional meals will be sold to the community as a fundraiser to generate income to replenish ingredients and supplies. This will allow students to create sustainability for the program and also learn small business skills. Folco lives in San Francisco.
