Kimberly Collum

Collum’s innovative teaching idea, “ELL Classroom Library,” will bring additional reading materials for the school’s ELL (English Language Learner) classroom. Access to these new materials, purchased with the funds from the Voya Unsung Heroes grant, will give approximately 125 ELL students in grades 6 through 8 access to books that will improve their acquisition of English, while allowing them to develop a love for reading. Collum will engage with the students on a one-on-one basis to ensure they are comprehending the text by using questioning techniques that will ensure that their acquisition of the English language is being accomplished.
