Latest Hospital Indemnity enhancements offer robust benefits
Now featuring newborn baby care and mental health/substance use treatment daily benefits
Whether a trip to the hospital* is unexpected — or expected, like having a baby — Hospital Indemnity Insurance can help employees cover out-of-pocket health care costs. To better support employees during what can be stressful life moments, we have further enhanced our Hospital Indemnity Insurance coverage to help address the well-being of the whole person. New benefits and features include expanded daily benefits for newborn babies and mental health and substance use care.
Newborn babies
Both routine and non-routine daily and admission benefits will be available for newborns beginning on the date of their birth — and employers can choose from variable levels of newborn baby coverage. A new mom may not be thinking about Hospital Indemnity Insurance in the month after giving birth. So, we provide automatic hospital and critical care unit admission and confinement benefits for newborn babies in the first 30 days — even if the employee is the only one enrolled. (Only one type of benefit is payable per day.) The newborn is then enrolled for the offered child coverage during the Qualified Life Event (QLE) period. In addition, there are no pre-existing or pregnancy exclusions.
Mental health and substance use treatment
There are no mental health-related exclusions in our base coverage — and daily benefits for mental health and substance use inpatient care within a hospital or rehabilitation facility are now a standard offering. In addition, outpatient rehabilitation facility daily benefits are available due to sickness, injury, substance use and mental health conditions.
Other new benefits and features
Besides new and improved contract language to simplify claims processing, employers can choose to offer their employees: Absence From Employment Premium Waiver (AEPW), HealthChampion® Plus advocacy support and Voya Travel Assistance services.
Additional new benefits and features include, but are not limited to:
- Unlimited admissions per confinement type
- “Elective surgery” exclusion changed to “cosmetic surgery” to enable benefits for insured donors for live organ donation
- Decrease in number of days between confinements for the same or related condition
- Optional mobile urgent care center coverage for non-life-threatening events or injuries
- Covering birthing centers that meet the definition of a hospital
More about our Hospital Indemnity Insurance
Our Hospital Indemnity Insurance is guaranteed issue and employers can create a customized benefit program by selecting the optional benefits and benefit level that works best for their employee group. Benefit types and amounts are determined by the plan selected and the care received. And with flexible plan design, organizations can decide how premiums will be paid (by employer, employee or a hybrid), as well as adjust benefits as deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums change.
Designed to pay a daily benefit for a covered stay in a hospital, critical care unit (CCU) or rehabilitation facility, paid Hospital Indemnity benefits can be used for any purpose, including out-of-pocket medical costs, unplanned expenses, non-medical bills — even everyday expenses like gas or groceries. Hospital Confinement Indemnity Insurance is a limited benefit policy. It is not health insurance and does not satisfy the requirement of minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
