Calderon’s innovative teaching idea, “Tablets for 21st Century Music,” will bring more project-based learning to the instrumental music classroom through interactive, hands-on experiences. Students will have composition assignments addressing conceptual objectives of each unit. Through project-based learning, students will have the opportunity to explore and create music in authentic ways, using 21st century digital tools. They will also be able to develop and use inter- and intra- personal skills needed for the real world. Calderon believes her project will transform her class into a 21st century musical maker space where students will drive their own learning and have the tools necessary to create, innovate, experiment and share original group and individual compositions.
