The team’s cross-curricular idea, “Gardening with Love Across the Curriculum,” intersects the subjects of history, health and environmental science through gardening. This approach allows students to broaden their lens of understanding by applying skills and strategies they learn in course lessons and real-world experiences. The team’s concept covers the history of gardening, its social, emotional, and nutritional advantages, plus technology and other resources to safeguard and enhance the school garden, such as the use of hydronic systems in the classroom. The educators believe “Gardening with Love Across the Curriculum” will enable students to take ownership in their learning, see their hard work in real-time, and wholeheartedly connect to content.
