Pendleton Elementary School
Sweet's "Make a Difference - Volunteer/Mentoring Program" gives parents, community members, and older students an opportunity to be mentors to younger students in a student publishing center and in-school post office. At the Pendleton Pup's Publishing Center, each student writes, edits, and publishes at least one book per year with the help of volunteers, computers, printers, and binding machines. At the Puppy's Post Office, students send letters inside and outside the school, sell greeting cards and stamps, and visit local post offices to see the U.S. Postal System at work. In the process, they hone their math skills and learn to appreciate the value of money.
