South Side Elementary
Students and their families can learn how to build healthy lifestyles together during the winter through the "Winter Journeys" program. Krejci will introduce to her second-grade students at South Side Elementary the value of winter outdoor activities such as skiing. The designs and purposes for the equipment used in winter sports will be analyzed by all participants. Students will develop safety skills for winter excursions in varied weather and learn how to care for the equipment. Their experiences will be transferred into scientific inquiries. Animal adaptations will be compared and contrasted to how equipment is developed by mimicking the adaptations of animals. Twenty to 25 students will share their experiences with their peers and members of the community through PowerPoint presentations. "Winter Journeys" is a way to encourage young people to participate in physical activities, which can make a huge impact on their health choices, especially during winter. Family members and other classes will also be encouraged to join "Winter Journeys". This project will expose participants to healthy lifestyle choices, the value of winter sports, and a better understanding of science. Krejci resides in Greybull.
