The team’s innovative teaching idea, “Everyone Gets to Read,” focuses on providing research-based reading programs for students with special needs. The current informal programs have been a challenge for students with disabilities, especially students with cognitive disabilities, who are non-verbal. Through specialized programs like Early Literacy Skills Builder and Early Reading Skills Builder, students will be exposed to techniques and strategies proven effective for students with special needs. With the Voya grant, the team can ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities, has equal opportunity and equal access to reading.
