Teresa Garatoni and Stacy Bishop
Garatoni’s and Bishop’s innovative idea, “Performative Podcast: Teaching Informational Text,” will use a national podcast competition, the NPR (National Public Radio) Student Podcast Challenge, as a tool through which they will teach their students about informational text and deliver the informational standards for both English I and II. They’ll teach their students what a podcast is, and how to focus on the claim, the evidence and the structure of delivering information. Ultimately, students working in groups will create podcasts based on their collective interests. This project gets the entire school involved because students in their classes will conduct interviews with students and will survey the student body. The students will also get to vote on which of the created podcasts will be sent to NPR to be entered into the competition.
