Tammy Hendrix

Hendrix's "High to Low: Everyone Wins" is a unique program that pairs two opposite segments of the student population at Newberry Middle School: 42 gifted and talented seventh grade math students with 78 self-contained special education students in grades 6-8. During this yearlong classroom service, the gifted math students will work in five committees to plan, implement and evaluate three Family Math Nights for the special education students and their families. The main objectives of this program include developing essential leadership skills such as teamwork, communication, planning, problem solving, etc., among the gifted students while improving the problem solving and math skills of the special education students. Both groups of students benefit from becoming a more integral part of the school community through this unique experience of working with non-similar peers.
