Tabitha Young
Young’s innovative teaching idea, “Guided Reading Book Room,” establishes a school wide leveled library designed to improve classroom instruction and student reading skills, including accuracy and overall reading comprehension for all students. According to Young, teaching guided leveled reading allows teachers to support and challenge students, giving students the opportunity to think within, about, and beyond the text with books on their instructional level. Teachers will use multiple copies of leveled texts during small group instruction. Teachers will use the Literacy Continuum to assess, plan, and teach guided leveled reading, making them able to pair books to student reading ability and move to more complex books as student skills improve, allowing teachers to support and challenge all students along their literacy journey. Benefiting teachers and students.
