The team’s innovative teaching idea, “Hands-on Lab Supplies,” will offer real-world laboratory experiences to students at the Memphis Academy of Health Sciences High School. The Voya grant will help fund new lab equipment, which will give students experience and confidence if they pursue a career in health sciences and a competitive advantage if they do. The hands-on learning will facilitate greater assimilation of information and enhanced understanding and recall using real-word and self-discovered examples. Traditional learning from lectures and books doesn't excite or motivate students to achieve their potential or pursue careers in the sciences. The goal is to inspire students to learn health science standards and give them confidence in their ability to succeed in the health sciences.
