Sister Jeannette Lucey

Lucey's "Peace Program" is a project that promotes proactive and positive solutions to violence in one of the most violent areas of Philadelphia. The program seeks to create new kinds of heroes among school-age children - those with the courage to settle differences non-violently. Central among the many facets of the program are: the Peace Table, where students can sit in private to work out their conflicts peacefully; After-School Peace Clubs, where students can engage in various activities such as drama, cooking, chess, and French classes; and non-violence training. As a result of this program, there has been a marked decrease in schoolyard fights and a growing interest in after-school participation.
