Peixoto’s and Langton’s innovative teaching idea, “Write Your Story,” is intended to motivate students to become writers. The program, which will be part of the English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum, encompasses an array of writing genres such as personal narratives, informational text, argumentative text and short stories. In addition, throughout the schoolyear, the students will collaborate with others and give feedback, enabling them to self-assess and revise their text throughout the entire process, with the ultimate goal to have their best writing piece published in the class’s sixth-grade book. Through “Write Your Story,” students will feel empowered as writers, giving them confidence that they can be successful authors.
