Nesseth's "Real World Investigation" project is a collaborative program involving several elementary schools in the Grand Forks area. Through the program, students use USB microscopes to investigate a different area of the same water ecosystem. Samples are taken throughout the year to discover how the weather and the changing seasons affect the ecosystem. Students benefit as they gain hands-on investigative experience, design activities to support their hypotheses, and post their findings on the school Web site. The community benefits as the project provides important information about local wetlands.
