Sheila Burke and Regina Sweeney

Burke’s and Sweeny’s innovative teaching idea, “Strong Bodies, Keen Minds,” includes using the Voya grant funds to purchase various balls and equipment for their physical education program, a program that for the first time in several years at 116-year old St. Peter Claver Catholic School, has a certified physical education. The ultimate goal is to provide maximum activity time and a variety of activities to help the students learn to be healthy and active. Basketballs, foam coated balls and discs are basic equipment needs the grant will be used to purchase. According to Burke and Sweeney, with the addition of the equipment, their students will be exposed to more activities that will allow them to become proficient in the skills they will need to live a physically active lifestyle.
