Sharon Bily Bravo

2015
Kansas City, MO
C. A. Burke Elementary School

Bravo’s innovative teaching idea, “What’s It Like Outside,” is focused on creating a weather station at the school to give all students the opportunity to look at weather data and explore meteorology. Students will learn about the inquiry process, how to conduct experiments, and how to collect and interpret data. Rain gauges will be purchased to track precipitation and placed in different areas of the school grounds. The students will also create a hypothesis, collect data, and compare and contrast the results to see if their hypothesis is correct. In addition, Bravo plans to purchase digital microscopes so students can better analyze and interpret the data they collect. This project-based learning experience meets Common Core standards and Next Generation Science Standards and will provide teachers creative lessons in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) education.
