The team’s innovative teaching idea, “Eighth Grade Legacy Production,” is focused on teaching students to work together in a collaborative setting and apply interdisciplinary skills in mathematics, science, language arts, music, art and physical education. The group of teachers will support and advise the eighth grade class as they put on a production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. The students will be required to market, produce, act, build sets and create costumes — culminating in a live show to be performed for the entire school and parents. The production will be student led with teacher support. This Eighth Grade Legacy Production will be an innovative, interdisciplinary way of introducing students to the works of William Shakespeare, while allowing them to work together in groups to produce a finished piece.
