Scott Prescott
Prescott’s innovative teaching idea, “Ukuleles for All,” focuses on teaching students how to play the Ukulele to provide an emotional and creative outlet, while challenging students with new musical skills and giving them a sense of belonging. The ukulele is the perfect learning tool that, with dedicated guidance, can positively impact learners at this critical developmental stage in their lives. Making music with the ukulele offers opportunities for success and developing life skills such as confidence, collaboration and communication. Student training and instruction would happen in multiple ways: in-person, via video tutorial, peer support, and web resources for ukulele learning. Initial lessons will include instruction on the history of the ukulele, how to hold it, where to place the hands, how to press and strum the strings, and its cultural usage.
