Volcano Vista High School

In an effort to promote financial literacy and positive character education, the high school newspaper class will plan, execute and publish a monthly financial section through McIndoo's winning program, the "Financial Section of the Student Newspaper". In addition to the print version, students will select a limited number of stories to produce for video broadcasts for the school video announcements. Topics such as funding for education, personal finance, the employment sector, local industries, energy, higher education, financial and business education, student enterprises, credit, debt and consumer technology are just a few subjects slated for inclusion. McIndoo, who lives in Albuquerque, believes that by devoting an entire section of the paper to the financial subject, just as they have with sports, opinion and entertainment, they will stress the importance of finance in their lives and in U.S. culture. The goal is to provide relevant, hard-hitting news that will impact the choices the students at Volcano Vista High School make regarding spending and saving.
