Sarah’s innovative teaching idea, “Street Trees and Honeybees,” focuses on providing students with an introduction to essential 21st century STEM skills. She teaches a twice-weekly STEM class at her middle school where she was inspired to develop curriculum that allows students to use newly developed skills in a real-world setting. Through this project, students will build an understanding of the value of green spaces to an urban ecosystem. Sarah aims to help students develop and execute projects that will create invertebrate habitat and improve the water-absorbing capabilities of the street tree beds, which are currently barren, around their school and share information about their work with the community.
