McMaster’s innovative teaching idea, “Camp Read-A-Lot,” will be a two-week-long unit that includes a room transformation, tents, model-campfires, s’mores and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) studies, including the exploration of constellations. The materials needed to create the experience will be purchased with the funds from the Voya Unsung Heroes grant, allowing McMaster to transform the classroom into a camp that will engage and excite students. Her hope is that they will love learning as they read, play board games and collaborate on STEM-related subjects.
