Lightbown's "RAH! RAH! Read at Home!" project provides first-grade teachers with appropriate-level texts to teach effective reading. The project increases young students' reading levels, accelerates literacy skills, and establishes good reading habits. Since the economic situations and educational backgrounds of many of the students' families result in few books at home, students are also provided with books to take home with them each day. In addition, parents complete surveys that are returned to the teacher
