East Middle School
Young instituted the "Peer Mediation" program, which trained selected eighth-grade students to serve as mediators in student conflicts. Nominated at the sixth-grade level and trained in seventh-grade for ten weeks, students learned mediation and conflict resolution techniques from The Peace Institute in Washington, D.C. Fist fights, verbal altercations, racial incidents, and suspensions have declined as a result of the program.
