“Blending Technology With the Local Library” is Meyer’s creative program idea. With his program, each of the 225 second and third-grade students will have an opportunity to offer technology-based book reviews for others to hear before checking out the book. Students will first check out a book from the local public library and read it and create a review. Through the use of an innovative application to create a digital quick response (QR) code, a code will be created for each book that, through the use of a downloaded QR reader application on a cell phone, will lead to a link of an audio file featuring the student’s review. Each 30-second audio file will include the child’s name and why they liked the book. After the QR code is created, it will be taped on the front cover of each book and will allow anyone from the public to get a student’s review. Meyer, who resides in Sidney, wants his students to experience the satisfaction of having their opinions about what they read broadcast to a wider audience, beyond the classroom.
