Richard Williams

Williams and Highland Middle School's "Environmental Studies Program" teaches students to help care for their local environment. Students monitor a pond, wetland, and mature woodland next to the school and perform investigations to determine their condition. They follow up with improvement suggestions to the local park board. The program makes learning science meaningful to students by offering hands-on, real-world experiences. They develop an understanding of science's significance in their daily lives and discover how they can make an impact on the area in which they live.
