Regine Philippeaux
Philippeaux’s innovative teaching idea, “Engineering Is Us,” focuses on inspiring young minds to pursue STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) careers, which are currently facing a significant shortage of representation from Latinx and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) populations. Her middle school students will lead this program in which they will conduct STEAM workshops for younger students as an extension of their own learning. Through the project, Philippeaux’s goal is to break the cycle of poverty and marginalization for Latinx and BIPOC students by developing their engineering skills, inspiring younger generations to explore STEAM careers, and creating a more inclusive and diverse STEAM workforce, benefitting both the individuals involved and society.
