Buresh’s innovative teaching idea, “NEIM Flora and Fauna,” involves the construction of growing containers to experiment with the various types of flora and fauna that thrive in the Iowa summer season. According to Buresh, Montessori education uses the outdoors as an important classroom when it comes to learning about creatures, flowers, plants and other vegetation. With the funds provided by the Voya Unsung Heroes grant, the students will be able to grow vegetables and flowers that can ultimately be used in the school and the community during the summer months.
