The goal of Vega’s innovative teaching idea, “Stevens Law Confidence Course,” is to ensure students have a better future as they prepare for their post-secondary transition. In the local county and in the United States, there is a need for police officers and Vega’s program helps to prepare students who want to pursue a career in law enforcement. By offering a confidence course, Vega wants to prepare students for the physical training portion of becoming an officer. Another goal of the program is to help build trust between the community and the police by focusing on community policing and finding opportunities to interact with community members in a non-enforcement context to promote a positive relationship between the community and the officers. A confidence course will also promote physical activity during and after the school day and improve the health of children and adolescents.
