Dupre's "Pueblo Pathways: A Road to a Healthy Life" project is a part of the Pathways program, which is designed to combat the high rate of obesity. The school has an ethnic mix of Hispanic, Native American and Caucasian students and a recent New Mexico Department of Health survey showed a high rate of obesity among Native American and Hispanic youth. The project benefits students and their families by teaching healthy lifestyle choices and exposes children and their families to enjoyable physical games and different foods based on Native American traditions. The program benefits students and their families. When students choose a healthier lifestyle, school attendance and learning also improve.
