Searcey's "Recording for Quality" project teaches students how to set up, use, and tear down recording equipment for taping concerts. Using a digital hard disk recorder, students are trained in the area of music technology, from setting up microphones for optimum sound capture to operating a board to make the most of that sound. Students record end-of-the-year concerts presented by music groups from their own school and others and then produce CDs for distribution to students. At the end of the project, students have acquired knowledge of music technology that they can put to use with school or church groups and can serve as a stepping stone to a career in music production.
