"BeFit" is a hands-on approach to address childhood obesity and obese children's likelihood of developing Type 2 diabetes. The goals of this winning program are to educate students on fitness and wellness and decrease the number of overweight, obese, and diabetic teens at Clarenceville High School. The program involves having students in the physical education, health, and anatomy courses perform a variety of fitness tests using medical and exercise equipment. The fitness tests will include: shuttle run, flexibility, mile and pacer runs, sit-ups, heart rate, blood pressure, body mass index, and weight/mass. Students who are in the health and physical education classes will work on improving their fitness throughout the semester while students in anatomy and health will focus on the anatomy being measured by each test and acceptable parameters for overall wellness. Waeschle, and her teammates, hope the students and their families will benefit from learning about healthy living.
