Roberts and her colleagues’ innovative teaching idea, “Body Power Builds Brain Power,” will address the need for children to move throughout the day rather than sit stationary. The project will consist of setting up an active learning classroom for all students. Cardio exercise equipment, desks, and active learning kiosks will allow movement to be connected to learning which will allow blood flow to the brain, enabling students to master learning standards in a new and exciting way. The active learning room will allow students to rotate on a weekly basis using an assigned schedule. Learning stations will be set up using ellipticals, rowers, steppers, bikers, surfboards and more. The active learning kiosk system will allow students to work through subject presentations using a digital viewing monitor. The active learning room approach encourages teachers and students to embrace the research that finds the fitter the child the better their brain works.
