Goldman’s innovative teaching idea, “POE Zoo Projects,” focuses on proving an authentic design project within the Principles of Engineering class for the students at Folsom High School. Students involved in this project will be working with the Folsom Zoo-Sanctuary on engineering projects. Working together with the zoo-keepers and program directors, students will design projects based on the needs of the animals at the zoo alongside their specific interests and skills. Through these authentic engineering projects, the students will be given the ability to apply their learnings to “real world” scenarios by working directly with the zoo staff.
