Cregger's "Snow Science" project creates a multi-disciplinary academic curriculum focused on the weather phenomenon of snow, including study of the various scientific, economic and potentially hazardous aspects of the winter season. Students study snow during indoor/outdoor lessons, hands-on activities, and with guest speakers, and experience collaborative learning through snowshoe tours, classroom activities and fieldwork. Rotating topics of study include: Snow Crystals & How They Form, Winter Ecology, The Economic Importance Snow Plays in Our Community, and Travel and Safety in Snowy Environments. The study of snow provides students a variety of experiences as they research scientific facts, take measurements, analyze data and write about their findings. A culmination of the snow study involves an open house for parents and community members where students present projects ranging from poems and stories, to posters, instructional lessons and short movies.
