Michael Huchro

Huchro, a fifth grade teacher at Lake Avenue Elementary School, created the "Outdoor Education Experience" program offering all fifth grade students a four day, three night resident outdoor education experience at a camp in Fort Ann, New York. The experience is designed to introduce the students from the city of Saratoga Springs to the intricate natural world in which they live and their relationship with it. Hands-on lessons connect each discipline to the outdoor environment with a tightly woven emphasis on team building, character development and a sense of respect for the land. The program will occur during the beginning of the school year, ra ther than the culmination, allowing the lessons to be extended and the bonds tightened early. This will provide for close group collaboration among the students. Huchro lives in Wilton.
