Hattan's distinctive program idea, "Kool-Aid Khemistry", will allow students at Woodmont High School to investigate the properties of this popular drink using specialized technology and software to determine its concentration. According to Hattan, only household acids and bases are investigated in chemistry labs, so this initiative would provide a unique opportunity for students to discover the acidic nature of drinks as well as other important properties that affect taste and the human body. The scope of the project would involve students measuring factors like pH, absorbance and conductivity, organizing their findings into graphs, interpreting graphs for information about Kool-Aid, and analyzing unknown samples prepared by Hattan. He has proposed that students document their research in their own e-folios and then share the collections at a school-wide presentation. Hattan resides in Fountain Inn.
