Melony King

At GT/Technology Center, gifted and talented students now have the opportunity to create an 18-hole miniature golf course. The "Par Fore Project" will allow King and her students to create a Wonders of the World-themed course. Natural and man-made wonders will be the inspiration for the course, as researched by the students. Each student will sketch and plan an attractive and recognizable original design for their hole based on their research. Using scientific concepts, students will make sure that the golf balls can make it through the three-dimensional structures they create, similar to what a full-time course designer does. Geometric figures, angles and mathematics will make the students' designs a reality. Not only are the students working across various aspects of their curriculum, but they get to create a nontraditional project from start to finish. Through this assignment they will build teamwork and trial and error skills, all of which are essential in the working world. King resides in Miami.
