Melba Carr

Thirty five at-risk eighth grade female students will be directly impacted each semester by Carr's program, "Girl S.M.A.R.T.S. (Science and Math Achievement using Research and Technology Skills)." The program is an academic partnership between Walter J. Baird Middle School, Cumberland University and the Lebanon/Wilson County Chamber of Commerce. Students will conduct research and experience first-hand a taste of the educational requirements, challenges and intrigue of a career in science, math, or technology. A career center will be developed, allowing students access to the latest books, periodicals, online resources and career information regarding science, math and technology. Carr lives in Lebanon.
