The Glenn School
Smaller schools can often have opportunities to educate a child beyond just textbooks. Focusing on the whole child is the objective of Fargo's "LivING Well" program at The Glenn School, a one-room school serving grades K-6. This four-part program empowers 45 students through school curriculum to lead healthy lives. In the MovING Well segment, students will learn Pilates, yoga, dance and kickboxing. Using math and science techniques, students will study data related to their athletic progress. The next phase, EatING Well, will allow students to explore and prepare healthy snacks for the entire school, which promotes healthy eating habits. The third segment, GrowING Well, will focus on students growing vegetables and other plants in the school greenhouse. This will reinforce their studies of botany, ecology, math and meteorology. The final phase, FeelING Well, will support all of the other parts of the program. Overall, this project speaks to the obesity epidemic facing America's youth, while promoting tangible alternative choices for all the students. Fargo lives in Allegan.
