Severin's "The Best Weather/Using Real-Time Weather in the Classroom" project incorporates the AWS WeatherNet AirWatch System into the classroom curriculum to enhance students' understanding of the scientific process. K-5 students use a state-of-the-art weather station to take daily readings from an on-site weather station via the Internet, chart the data, and graph the results. This data is shared with a local television station to incorporate into its nightly weather reports. Through these hands-on activities, students learn to describe weather patterns, seasonal changes, water phases, and energy transfers and use mathematics and geography to investigate real-life scientific situations.
