Spiker’s and Allen’s innovative teaching idea, “Learning through Legos,” focuses on leveraging the flexibility of Legos as a learning tool that can be adapted to virtual learning platforms. This project is an innovative opportunity for kindergarten scholars to engage in open-ended S.T.E.A.M. activities that give them the chance to explore, design, create, problem-solve and invent. This project will also provide Lego kits that can be distributed to student homes for individual use through a virtual curriculum. The goal of the project is for students to develop number sense, practice addition, subtraction and build a foundational knowledge of fractions, which develops problem-solving skills, encourages flexibility in thinking and expands understanding.
