As a way to encourage musical literacy, Muckleroy proposed the development of a "Yamaha LC2 Keyboard Lab" to make instruction on a quality instrument accessible to Kimpton Middle School's student body, regardless of their economic status. Private piano instruction can be costly and time consuming for parents responsible for transporting their children to and from lessons. Muckleroy believes an in-school piano lab will provide a place for students to practice their keyboard and piano skills while at the same time improve their music reading literacy and their understanding of musical concepts like harmony and form - all at no extra cost or inconvenience to parents. Approximately 250 seventh and eighth-grade students per year could benefit from the development of a lab, which would provide enriched instruction toward students' mastery of the Ohio Academic Content Standards for Music. The lab will also help the social and academic development of students flourish, as numerous studies have shown that studying an instrument increases both reasoning and mathematical abilities. Muckleroy lives in Uniontown.
