Wittman's "Literacy in Motion" project is a multi-sensory approach to teaching that uses themes based on children's books and lets teachers more easily include special-needs students in their classrooms. Creating kits that integrate therapeutic activities and assistive technology, the project increases student achievement by raising the ability of all students to actively participate in standards-based instruction. Kits include overlays for communication devices, communication boards related to particular themes and books, and switch-adapted toys. Kits are based on topics like fish, rainforests, dinosaurs, and the children's book, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."
