Brese’s innovative teaching idea, “Whiteboard Tabletop and Rovers,” includes the use of whiteboards for students working out problems. Although, that is nothing new in a math class, for the past 5 years Brese has bought and covered her tables with bathroom white tile board, so her students can work directly on their table, rather than scratch paper. I can see the students’ work from different areas in the class, easily wipe off their mistakes and have them make corrections and allow students to work in groups more efficiently. She is incorporating the newest Texas Instruments TI-Innovator & Rover which requires students to use equations and geometry to program the Rover to move under specific guidelines. This device holds a marker and draws its path on the whiteboard. Because of the Voya grant, her classroom will get the proper whiteboard tables so students are able to combine all their work and rover results together, without laying on the floor or going outside of the classroom.
