Agnew, a seventh-grade science teacher, believes digital microscopes are more than just toys; they can be powerful instructional tools that enhance instruction while providing exciting learning adventures for students. Her program idea, "Adventures in Digital Microscopy", will allow fifth through eighth-grade students to utilize digital microscopes as part of Valders Middle School's forthcoming science technology lab. This piece of cutting-edge technology will give students the opportunity to engage in the in-depth study and exploration of various topics by microscopically measuring, manipulating and capturing still and moving images. Lab reports would become more meaningful because students would be able to incorporate text, visual representations, spreadsheets and graphs. Additionally, students will be able to spend more time examining living specimens and they will have accurate, full-color photomicrographs of their discoveries. The program is intended to benefit regular, accelerated and special needs students. Agnew lives in Kiel.
