Lindsey’s innovative teaching idea, “BrainSTEM University,” focuses on teaching middle and high school students the technical skills necessary to monetize their talents. BrainSTEM works with numerous nonprofits and schools across Louisville, helping youth in underserved areas access quality STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education designed to improve their grades, submit homework assignments on time, and inspire them through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) projects. BrainSTEM empowers students to think creatively, take risks, and develop the skills necessary to succeed in the tech-driven economy. The courses offered includes: 1. Entrepreneurship and Technology, where students learn how to use graphic design software to create professional-looking logos to market their business. Logos are added to a virtual mall in the metaverse, and students use virtual goggles to visit each other’s stores. 2. Robot Space Adventure, where students progress through mission objectives that promote computational thinking, problem solving and collaboration. Students are challenged to complete the space-themed mission objectives that simulate real-world space missions using robots and also receive an introduction to programming.
