Mason and Abbott’s innovative teaching idea, “Underwater Robotics,” is focused on having their students collaborate to design, build and create a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) that goes underwater and helps recover and place various items in the water. Students will work in small teams to create a business that is based on robotics and engineering sciences. The two teachers say that the idea behind this project is to help broaden student perspectives, require them to utilize higher level thinking skills, and to infuse STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education into their everyday lives. Students are expected to present their plan to the entire school and also attend a regional competition in the spring.
