Luck's "Spanish Smile Mentoring Project" promotes cultural awareness by engaging students in a project that strengthens knowledge and understanding of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture. Students from Spanish II and III classes partner with members of the local Hispanic community to provide a mentor service at local elementary schools. All students involved in the project gain special knowledge of the pluralistic society of the nation and gain a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture. Language skills are enhanced through this learning experience while community bonds are strengthened and cross-cultural friendships are made.
