Aiken Middle School
Through hands-on data collection, research and experimentation, Brown hopes to create a community of "water wise" ambassadors to spread the message of responsible preservation of our earth's natural resources. Her program idea, "Water, Water Everywhere? Environmental Conservation Project", stresses the importance of water conservation and how the choices students make today will impact their capacity to preserve and maintain a clean, healthy environment for future generations. Approximately 70 Aiken Middle School sixth graders will gather, analyze and interpret data, construct graphs and conduct scientific experiments to demonstrate their growing awareness of issues affecting the environment. The project involves highlighting the connection between water availability and population growth, damage caused by water pollution and tests for water filtration systems. Brown hopes the knowledge students acquire in the classroom will inspire continued learning and involvement in the environment that will last long after the lessons have ended. Brown is a resident of Aiken.
